1st Test: Reading 82%, Scaled: 257. Writing 68%, Scaled: 206 (I barely completed the essays and was never able to proofread) 2nd Test: ONLY Writing 71%, Scaled:230 (I had plenty of time to complete essays and proofread) I only needed a 213 on the writing to pass but the time is what killed me.
I have also done one sheet for a week's worth of bell ringers, having some days be mroe reading and others more writing centered. If it was reading, I would have students pick up the reading for the day on their way into class to get them thinking.
Writing really frustrates this student and getting the student to complete the outline - just the outline - has been like pulling teeth. Finally, the outline (really, more like a rough draft) is mostly complete, after coming in for additional help at recess multiple days, but the work is rather poor.
My second graders are writing their first 3-paragraph 'research report' right now. They first chose 3 whales or penguins to write about. For example, if they chose penguins, they may have then chosen the Macaroni Penguin, the Chinstrap Penguin, and the King Penguin. Then they had to find three facts about each penguin.
Oct 25, 2011. I always use either wet-erase markers or wax pencils on my laminated posters. The wet-erase markers don't "ghost" quite as bad as dry erase, but the red and purple ones will some. My favorite is Sharpie marker. I erase it with a plastic eraser. It's time-consuming, but it does stay put!
