Posts: 218. Illinois I Pass. Just spoke to the I-Pass people and they said I should place the transponder in my Tow vehicle and not in the MH. I have registered both vehicles. She said it would recognize that I had the 5 axles. Seems odd to me that I would place in the back vehicle and not the front vehicle. Would appreciate confirmation.

Ipass question. We are from Illinois and just bought an ACE 27.1 yesterday. Our Ipass did not work. We remembered at the last minute and held it out the window. We had a C and with the "brow" over the ACE not sure where the best placement would be of the Ipass. Thanks.

We were fully aware of the "pay online" tollway fees, but what we were not aware if is the racket IL has set up! You are charged a toll as you pass through the fee areas, and are expected to pay within 14 days.
Since you're coming from the south, you don't have to worry until you get in Chicago area ( I80, I294, I355, I90). You can buy them at 200 Jewel Osco food stores: Get I-PASS and Get Going! - www.illinoistollway.com. Jewel charges a $2.90 service fee.
We got the front plate mounted EZ Pass transponder, ordered it from state of Virginia before our 8 week Northeast trip last year. There was no problem at all using it at the toll booths. __________________. Conclusion: Beware, and if necessary buy an ipass!!! I traveled some of Illinois’ toll roads last summer. Thrived to follow there direction for online payment and got nowhere.

They tell me, aside from the $100.00 initial draw from my credit card (was $35.00 for my truck and fiver) that I would need a roof mount transponder.
While the IPass transponder is free, you do have to put a deposit down, which you will get back if returned. FYI, the transponders won’t work until they are activated. Personally, I’d suggest looking into which state has the best deal on an EZPass. Someone mentioned that you get a 50% discount on tolls for having an IPass transponder.
Having an IPass is no guarantee of safe travels here in IL. Friday received a bill for $67 tolls and fines. Best part is I checked my IPass account and was already billed for those tolls. 2hrs later on the phone and no luck getting it resolved. My advice is just avoid IL all together.
