Box joints are generally created by using the same profile but displaced for both halves. In modern workshops these are often made on table saws, [1] sometimes using a dado set. Custom machinery can cut the entire joint in one pass, using a suitable jig multiple pieces, even of opposing senses, can be cut at once.

There are jigs to cut dovetails, mortise & tenon joints, box joints, keyed miters, finger joints, bridle joints, scarf joints, and many other joints.
Router tables are used in one of three ways. In all cases, an accessory is used to direct the workpiece. A fence is used, with the router bit partially emerging from the fence. The workpiece is then moved against the fence, and the exposed portion of the router bit removes material from the workpiece. No fence is used.
Mortise and tenon joints are strong and stable joints that can be used in many projects. They connect by either gluing or friction-fitting into place. The mortise and tenon joint also gives an attractive look. One drawback to this joint is the difficulty in making it because of the precise measuring and tight cutting required.
However, due to the precision of fit required for a mortise and tenon joint, this can be a difficult and time-consuming task. Other tools such as a router could be used for the task, but the router usually requires special attachments, jigs or templates and the router bit leaves rounded corners that might need to be squared by hand with a chisel.
