    There's no alternative. You need to use multiple programs to make avatars. A 3d editor like Blender for detailed model making, or you can use something like Vroid to make an avatar as well. But no mater what you use to make the model itself. Unity is 100% required in order to set that model up as an avatar and do the upload to VRC itself.

    The other responses in this thread are right. Its never been easier than now to make an avatar, especially with Cat's Blender plugin. Once you get the process down, you can get a fully optimized (atlased) avatar into the game in about 30 minutes or less. However, like anything technically complex, it takes time to learn.
