The 2022–23 season was Liverpool Football Club's 131st season in existence and their 61st consecutive season in the top flight of English football. Coming off their 2021–22 campaign , Liverpool competed in this season's editions of the Premier League , FA Cup , EFL Cup and the UEFA Champions League .
They won their first back-to-back titles in the 1921–22 and 1922–23 seasons; this was their last success until the 1946–47 season, when they regained the league title. Relegated in the 1953–54 season , they did not regain their place in the First Division until the 1962–63 season under the management of Bill Shankly .
This was also Liverpool's final season under Jürgen Klopp, who announced his departure at the season's end on 26 January 2024. [5] On 25 February 2024, Liverpool beat Chelsea 1–0 in the EFL Cup final , with Virgil van Dijk scoring the winner in the 118th minute to win the club's tenth League Cup and second under Klopp. [ 6 ]
