Located on a 161-acre (0.65 km 2) tract along the shores of Lake Chatuge in the north Georgia mountain community of Hiawassee, the Fairgrounds offers a glimpse into the past with its historic Pioneer Village, an expansive and comfortable music venue in the Anderson Music Hall, and 189 RV camp sites with lake views and modern conveniences.
The state of Georgia first purchased the land for the park in 1999. In 2006, the state approved $7 million for the first phase of park development. [2] Beginning in 2008, the Friends of Chattahoochee Bend organization began hosting work days to aid in the development of the park. The park was opened to the public on July 1, 2011.
Just three years after it was established, the campground was turned over to the State Parks Department because it was too busy for Fish Hatchery personnel to manage. Renamed Moccasin Creek State Park, in 1966, it is Georgia's smallest state park, and is considered to be one of Georgia's top destination for camping, hiking and fishing.
Hiawassee is the county seat of Towns County, Georgia, United States. [5] The population was 981 at the 2020 census . [ 3 ] Its name is derived from the Cherokee —or perhaps Creek—word Ayuhwasi , which means meadow , [ 6 ] (A variant spelling, "Hiwassee," is used for the local river and some other Appalachian place names.)

Lake Conasauga is a 19-acre (77,000 m 2) lake in the Lake Conasauga Campground located near the summit of Grassy Mountain in the Chattahoochee National Forest in northern Georgia, United States. It is the highest lake in Georgia at 3,150 feet (960 m) above sea level. [2] It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, which finished it in 1940.
