The First-Year Experience (FYE) (also known as the Freshman-Year Experience or the Freshman Seminar Program) is a program at many American colleges and universities designed to help students prepare for the transition from high school to college.
The First Year Experience program is designed to help students transition to college on academic, social, and educational levels. Students in FYE housing are grouped together by major, when possible, and reside with a staff that is specially trained to handle first-year transitional issues.
Another notable aspect of student life at RPI is the "First-Year Experience" (FYE) program. Freshman begin their stay at RPI with a week called "Navigating Rensselaer and Beyond" or NRB week. The Office of the First-Year Experience provides several programs that extend to not only freshman, but to all students.

Dubois Hall and Gerry Hall are sister buildings, and hold approximately 236 and 200 students respectfully. Murphy Hall and O'Connor Hall, another set of sister building, house approximately 270 students each. O'Connor Hall houses the First-Year Experience program and accordingly houses only first-year students.
