Bill Gaither was born in Alexandria, Indiana, in 1936 to George and Lela Gaither.He formed his first group the Bill Gaither Trio (consisting of Bill, his sister Mary Ann (1945–2018), [1] and brother Danny Gaither (1938–2001) in 1956 while a college student at Anderson College, to which he had transferred after one year at Taylor University.
It was also the first album of the vocal band ever to feature only songs written by Bill and Gloria Gaither. A live album called Better Day was released in January 2010. Gaither and his first wife, Toni, [20] had three children, Nic, Mitchell and Trina. [2] A son and the daughter were active in Christian music. Nic Gaither played bass in the group that accompanied his father in concerts. [21] In late 2001, Danny’s second wife, Vonnie and Trina were two-thirds of the Gaither, Oliver and Oren trio. [22]
They have four children: Callie, Maggie Beth, David Grant and Coby. [7] Callie, Maggie and Grant can be seen on the Gaither Homecoming videos Christmas in the Country and A Time for Joy. The whole family is featured on the video, The Best of David Phelps from the Homecoming Series. All four children sing on the Classic video, as well.
