Hard Times was founded as a 24-hour cafe in 1992 by eight employees of The Cafe Expatriate, a failing restaurant at that location. Working with the vision of a place where all kinds of people could come together to drink coffee and eat vegetarian food, they transformed the restaurant into what is now Hard Times. [1]

One of the most iconic oceanfront restaurants in Los Angeles reportedly burned in the Palisades fire. Guests had flocked to Moonshadows since 1966 for a dining room hanging directly over the water.
It was opened by Harry Wyman and his wife Bert in 1939. They eventually built 15 Band Boxes in the chain by 1950. All of the restaurants were in Minneapolis, with the exception of one in Columbia Heights. In 1953, the Wymans sold the chain, and by 1972, this location was the only one that remained. It was purchased in 1998.

The upscale restaurant and nightclub Bellanote closed in July 2009. According to a February 12, 2010, article in the Twin Cities Business Journal, the Block E Hooters restaurant owed more than $350,000 in rent, utilities, taxes and penalties.
