Durham County (area 376,397 acres (1,523 km 2)) is an historic county in Ontario, Canada. It was named for the English County Durham and city of Durham . It was created in 1792 but was later merged Northumberland County to form the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham .
The hospital joined the National Health Service in 1948. [5] In 1971, a major reorganisation of Durham's hospitals made Dryburn Hospital the city's main hospital, while County Hospital became a dedicated psychiatric facility. [2] After psychiatric services had transferred to the Lanchester Road Hospital, the hospital closed in 2010. [6]

The hospital was renamed Whitby General Hospital in 1987.
