Founded in 1846, the university was affiliated with the Methodist Church until the spring of 2019. In the fall of 2020, Mount Union had an enrollment of 1,958 undergraduate and 220 graduate students.
The program has won 13 NCAA Division III Football Championships [2] and eight runner-ups. With more than 800 wins, [3] the Purple Raiders rank in the top 20 in most wins in NCAA history, and the most of any team in Division III.
