The GSPH offers the following dual degrees: MPH/MA in Latin American Studies, MPH/MSW, and MPH/MD. Nola J. Pender, PhD, RN, FAAN earned her BS in 1964 and her MA in 1965 from Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. She received a PhD. from Northwestern University of Evanston, IL in 1969. She was a nurse educator for over 40 years. [1] During her doctoral studies, Pender became interested in health promotion.
The professional core includes classes in contemporary health issues, public health promotion, healthcare systems, health behavior and epidemiology. In 2011, the Department of Community Health created a Masters of Public Health degree, which can be earned as a 5-year joint degree with the B.S. in Community Health. [8] [9]
The Hudson Clinic facility, utilized by the NSCS as a health and dental clinic, will become the new home of CPH's Institute of Gerontology in August 2014. Wright Hall, a former NSCS lodging facility, is currently being repurposed for the office and research needs of Health Promotion and Behavior and Health Policy and Management departments. [7]
