The Turner Building provides 7,432 square meters (80,000 square feet) of laboratory, office, and support service space. TFHRC now has 15 indoor and outdoor laboratories. Approximately 300 Federal employees, onsite contract employees, and students are currently engaged in or supporting transportation research at TFHRC.

On May 5, 1983, Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole and Federal Highway Administrator Ray Barnhart were part of a ceremony dedicating the Francis C. Turner Building. The research center was renamed the Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center. [1]
