WIS 35 is a major north–south route through westernmost Wisconsin, often following close to the state border. Because of the lower population of counties along the state's western border with Iowa and Minnesota, it is a mostly rural routing with lower traffic counts than in other parts of the state. [2]

Interstate 535 (I-535) is a 2.78-mile-long (4.47 km) auxiliary Interstate Highway spur route of I-35 in the US states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is paired with U.S. Highway 53 (US 53) along its entire route. The Interstate was part of the original 1956 Interstate Highway System and was completed in 1971.
In Wisconsin, US 61/US 151 joins with Wisconsin Highway 35 (WIS 35) about one mile (1.6 km) north of the Iowa–Wisconsin border. At Dickeyville, US 151 splits off and heads northeast to Platteville. US 61/WIS 35 continues north. US 151 later joins with US 18 near Dodgeville. The two highways share a route all the way to Madison.

Entering Wisconsin, it meets Wisconsin Highway 35 (WIS 35) at a four-way stop in Hager City. The route continues north for 9.1 miles (14.6 km) until it intersects with US 10 outside Ellsworth. US 63 and US 10 then run concurrently eastward into Ellsworth's downtown area, where they encounter the southern end of WIS 65.
