Our Whole Lives, or OWL, is a series of six comprehensive sexuality curricula for children, teenagers, young adults and adults published by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ Justice and Witness Ministries.
The "Our Whole Lives" (OWL) curriculum of sex-education for middle-schoolers was developed at Cedar Lane. Former Cedar Lane Minister of Religious Education, Rev. Roberta Nelson, famously defended the Unitarian-Universalists' proactive stance on church-based sex-education in a TV interview with Bryant Gumbel.
The program was revised several times over the next several decades and in 1999 was replaced with Our Whole Lives, a joint program with the United Church of Christ that continues to affirm LGBTQ identities in its curricula. [16]
