Aviano Air Base (IATA: AVB, ICAO: LIPA) (Italian: Base aerea di Aviano) is a base in northeastern Italy, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. It is located in the Aviano municipality, at the foot of the Carnic Pre-Alps or Southern Carnic Alps , about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Pordenone .
The activation ceremony was held at Aviano Air Base and was officiated by then-Battalion Commander of the 173rd Brigade Support Battalion (Airborne). [2] The Unit previously supported the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team (Airborne) as the Aerial Delivery Support Platoon as part of HHC, 173rd Brigade Support Battalion (Airborne).
The wing traces its lineage to its activation on 20 November 1947, first designated as the 31st Fighter Wing, and stationed at Turner Airfield, Georgia. Since then, the wing has been stationed at George Air Force Base, California and Homestead Air Force Base, Florida, until finally coming to Aviano Air Base, Italy in April 1994. [4]

Spur 111 was originally assigned on August 27, 1940 from SH 70 in Spur, Texas to the Texas State Experimental Farm. On May 19, 1942, it was modified to start at Loop 21. The route number was changed to FM 836 on November 6, 1948.
The 57th Rescue Squadron is part of the 31st Operations Group, 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano Air Base, Italy.As part of the 31st Operations Group it conducts pararescue operations in support of higher command directives, at times utilizing HH-60G Pave Hawk and Lockheed HC-130 Hercules aircraft flown by other rescue squadrons such as the 56th Rescue Squadron, also based at Aviano.
