The University of Wyoming (UW) is a public land-grant research university in Laramie, Wyoming, United States. It was founded in March 1886, four years before the territory was admitted as the 44th state, and opened in September 1887. The University of Wyoming's location is written into the state's constitution. [8]
Old Main, built 138 years ago in 1886 in Laramie, Wyoming, was the first building on the University of Wyoming campus and continues as its oldest. At an approximate elevation of 7,180 feet (2,190 m) above sea level, it currently houses university administration.
Tyrannosaurus rex Statue standing in front of the University of Wyoming Geological Museum. The University of Wyoming Geological Museum features a 45-foot-long Tyrannosaurus sculpture created by Samuel H. Knight. The sculpture was assembled and erected in front of the museum in 1964. Knight spent over 4,000 hours assembling the sculpture.
In the 1920s, an equipment manager named Deane Hunton found the picture. Thinking it embodied the spirit of the athletics program and the cowboy life, he stenciled an outline of the photograph, which became the iconic logo of the university (also found on Wyoming license plates since 1936 and many other places around the state).
