Anderson University was founded in 1848 as Johnson Female Seminary.Its founders were Daniel Brown, J.P. Reed, and Stephen McCulley. Johnson Female Seminary was named for William Bullein Johnson, an early Baptist statesman, a founder and first Vice President of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, and the first president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Ravens is the name used for all of the men's intercollegiate athletic teams that play for Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. The female intercollegiate teams are known as the Lady Ravens. Men's sports offered at Anderson University include football, basketball, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, soccer, cross country, and track & field.
The organization also added Anderson’s initials to the sideline padding near the 10-yard line on the field where Anderson worked for the past seven years as a member of the squad’s alumni crew.

The O.C. Lewis Gymnasium is a 3000-seat multi-purpose arena in Anderson, Indiana, USA on the Anderson University campus. It hosts local sporting events and gymkhana. It was home to the Indiana Alley Cats, in 2005, and the Anderson University Ravens basketball teams. The arena opened in 1962.
