As of 2024, the bishop of Albany is Edward Scharfenberger.
Williamson was elected Bishop of the Diocese of Albany on September 9, 2023, and was consecrated on February 24, 2024. [2] Williamson was elected on the fourth ballot. The lay order vote was 65-22, and the clergy vote was 56-54. [5] Williamson's tenure was preceded by turmoil within the diocese over the issue of same-sex marriage.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is a Catholic church near the Mansion District in Albany, New York, United States. Built in the period of the 1848–1852, it is the mother church of the Diocese of Albany. In 1976 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has several claims to architectural and ecclesiastical history.
