Nebraska Highway 36 begins in far northwestern Douglas County west of a freeway intersection with U.S. Highway 275 between Valley and Fremont. After a brief northeasterly routing, it turns east into farmland, passes the Elkhorn River and meets Nebraska Highway 31. It continues east from there and turns southeast towards Bennington.
Elkhorn is a western neighborhood of the city of Omaha, Nebraska, United States. The population was 6,062 at the 2000 census and was estimated by the Census Bureau at 8,192 in 2005 before it was annexed into Omaha in 2007.
It shares the first mile (1.6 km) in Nebraska with I-80 Business (I-80 Bus.). After passing through Bushnell, it enters Kimball, where it meets Old Highway 71 near the center of town. On the east side of Kimball, US 30 passes beneath the new Nebraska Highway 71 (N-71) bypass with access provided via Connecting Link 53E.
Near the Elkhorn neighborhood of Omaha, NE 31 and US 6 meet U.S. Highway 275 and Nebraska Highway 92, which is West Center Road. The Lincoln Highway in Omaha, Nebraska, runs east–west from near North 183rd Street and West Dodge Road in Omaha, Nebraska, towards North 192nd Street outside of Elkhorn. US-6/N-31 meet US-275 and N-92 near the Elkhorn neighborhood of Omaha, and they separate in Elkhorn itself at a freeway interchange which also has Nebraska Link 28B, a connector to US-275. [1] [2] At this point, US-6 goes onto the freeway, the West Dodge Expressway, and turns due east to go toward Downtown Omaha.
Elkhorn takes its name from the Elkhorn River and was incorporated by an act of the territorial legislature in 1889. It was annexed by Omaha on March 8, 2005 after a two-year court battle. [3] Elkhorn became part of Omaha on March 1, 2007. The original town site is near 204th St. and West Maple Road in West Omaha.
