Business State Highway 34-A (Bus. SH 34-A) was a bypass of Terrell, designated on February 28, 2013 and completed in early 2014. This business route was removed from the state highway system on July 27, 2017; the southern part of Bus. Quinlan Independent School District is a public school district based in Quinlan, Texas . In addition to Quinlan, the district serves the towns of West Tawakoni and Hawk Cove, most of Union Valley, as well as rural areas in southern Hunt County. A small portion of northern Kaufman County also lies within the district.
Texas State Highway 276 passes through the northern part of the city, leading east across the lake 6 miles (10 km) to East Tawakoni and west the same distance to Quinlan. Greenville , the Hunt county seat , is 22 miles (35 km) to the north via Highway 276 and Highway 34 , while downtown Dallas is 48 miles (77 km) to the west.
