Chapin, popularly known as the "Capital of Lake Murray", is a small lake town located at the northern tip of Lexington County, South Carolina, United States. Allis Company (now Allis-Chalmers) in 1890–91, and is still the largest reciprocating steam-driven engine ever built in the United States. It was use in the 1890s at the Chapin Mine "D" shaft, and from 1907 to 1914 at the nearby Ludington Mine "C" shaft.
