Zahlé (Arabic: زَحْلة) is a city in eastern Lebanon, and the capital and largest city of Beqaa Governorate, Lebanon.With around 150,000 [1] [2] inhabitants, it is the third-largest city in Lebanon after Beirut and Tripoli [3] [4] and the fourth-largest taking the whole urban area (the Jounieh urban area is larger).
The Zahlé district is one of the most diverse regions in Lebanon. As of 2022, the religious make-up of the District's 183,425 voters were roughly 30% Sunni, 17% Greek Catholic, 17% Shia, 16% Maronite Catholics, 9% Greek Orthodox, and 11% others. [2]
Zahle is the largest city and the administrative capital of the Beqaa Governorate. It lies just north of the main Beirut–Damascus highway, which bisects the valley. The majority of Zahle's residents are Lebanese Christian, the majority being Melkite Greek Catholic, Maronite Catholic, and Greek Orthodox Christians.
