Kerr County, Texas. Kerr County is a county located on the Edwards Plateau in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 52,598. [1] Its county seat is Kerrville. [2] The county was named by Joshua D. Brown for his fellow Kentucky native, James Kerr, a congressman of the Republic of Texas.
On April 6, 1984, more than 30 federal, state and local lawmen raided a 3,500-acre (14 km 2) ranch near the Texas Hill Country town of Mountain Home. The officers were responding to reports that workers on the ranch, kidnapped from Interstate 10, [1] were being forced to work and that at least one worker had died and was cremated on the premises. Joshua David Brown (1816–1876) was a Texas pioneer who became the first settler of Kerrville, the seat of Kerr County in the Texas Hill Country west of San Antonio.Brown donated the original 4-acre (16,000 m 2) townsite for Kerrville, and the community was named after his friend and fellow Kentucky native, James Kerr (1790–1850).
