The United States one-hundred-thousand-dollar bill (US$100,000) is a former denomination of United States currency issued from 1934 to 1935. The bill, which features President Woodrow Wilson , was created as a large denomination note for gold transactions between Federal Reserve Banks ; it never circulated publicly.
The Act of March 9, 1861 passed by the Congress of the Confederate States authorized the issue of $1,000,000 in Confederate banknotes, followed by an additional $1,000,000 in August, 1861. Seven series of banknotes were authorized for $678,000,000, but just over $1.5 billion was actually issued.
With the exception of the $100,000 bill, these bills ceased production in the 1940s, and were recalled in 1969. Of these, the $100,000 was printed only as a Series 1934 gold certificate and was only used for internal government transactions.
