aptitude is a front end to APT, the Debian package manager. [4] It displays a list of software packages and allows the user to interactively pick packages to install or remove. It has a search system utilizing flexible search patterns. It was initially created for Debian, but has appeared in RPM-based distributions as well.
Synaptic is a GTK-based graphical user interface designed for the APT package manager used by the Debian Linux distribution and its derivatives. The packages, called snaps, and the tool for using them, snapd, work across a range of Linux distributions [3] and allow upstream software developers to distribute their applications directly to users.
