Flights (Polish: Bieguni, lit. 'runners') is a 2007 fragmentary novel by the Polish author Olga Tokarczuk.The book was translated into English by Jennifer Croft. [1] The original Polish title refers to runaways (runners, bieguni), a sect of Old Believers, who believe that being in constant motion is a trick to avoid evil.
The book tells the story of Arcade, the guardian angel of Maurice d'Esparvieu. Bored because Maurice d'Esparvieu continues sinning (has multiple love affairs), Arcade begins reading the books from the famous d'Esparvieu library on theology and realizes that God is not the creator of the Universe but a demiurge who rules with fear and ignorance.
