Between 1926 and 1930, Grand Trunk constructed a new line from Detroit to Pontiac, and in October 1930 began construction of this depot in Birmingham. They hired the Detroit firm of Walbridge and Aldinger to construct the building, and it and the line was completed by the middle of 1931.
