Southend University Hospital is an NHS hospital located in Westcliff-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It is managed by Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust was established as the Southend Health Care Services NHS Trust on 17 December 1990, and became operational on 1 April 1991. [3] It changed its name to the Southend Hospital NHS Trust on 19 December 1997, and became a foundation trust in 2006. [4] [5]
The trust was established on 1 April 2020 following the merger of three existing NHS trusts: Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust and Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. [3] An initial merger between the 3 trusts was first agreed in January 2018. [4]

In 2015, services were to be reconfigured at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals, Southend University Hospital, and Mid Essex Hospital.
