As the battle between Trunks and Cell rages on, Cell reveals Trunks's weakness: in his ascended form, his new bulk slows him down. Goku, having ascended in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, also realizes this. He plans to spend as much time as possible as a Super Saiyan to eliminate this weakness.
Before he can launch his attack, Vegeta and Trunks arrive as Super Saiyans. After some taunting, Vegeta initiates a transformation that produces a form beyond that of Super Saiyan - evidenced by increased muscle size and an intense golden aura. As an Ascended Super Saiyan, Vegeta makes easy work of Cell while Trunks watches from the sidelines.
To help himself see, Goku becomes a Super Saiyan. Yakon, the devourer of light, sucks up the light emitting from Goku. Seeing this, Goku again becomes a Super Saiyan, allowing Yakon to suck up all the light energy he can. Finally, he becomes a Super Saiyan 2 and gives off a flash of brilliant energy which is too much for Yakon to handle.
Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Xeno Goku then team up and drive Janemba back with a series of simultaneous attacks. Janemba is about to continue the battle, but the fight is interrupted when two mysterious figures interfere by knocking him away, enraging Dr. W. Xeno Trunks and Xeno Pan identify the new arrivals as Majin Salsa and Putine.
Goku fights Frieza first and quickly gains the advantage but the latter deduces that he is holding back, so the two foes agree to fight at full power. Goku transforms into a new godly Super Saiyan form with a glowing blue hair and aura (later dubbed Super Saiyan Blue) and Frieza assumes his new gold-plated form, which he dubs Golden Frieza.
