Witmer Lake is a natural lake in LaGrange County, Indiana [1] near Wolcottville. [2] It is part of the Indian Lake Chain of five lakes- Witmer, Westler, Dallas, Hackenberg and Messick Lakes which are connected by the Little Elkhart River. [3] It is the southernmost lake of the five.
The area includes 529 acres (214 ha) of lakes and 17 miles (27 km) along the Pigeon River. It is located on Indiana State Road 3 , near Mongo in Lagrange County . [ 1 ] The Fish and Wildlife Area contains Tamarack Bog Nature Preserve, a 150-acre (61 ha) wetland parcel that has been designated as a National Natural Landmark .
The community is in western LaGrange County, surrounding the natural water body of Shipshewana Lake. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) northwest of the town of Shipshewana and 6 miles (10 km) east of Middlebury.
It is 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Wolcottville and 9 miles (14 km) southeast of LaGrange, the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the Adams Lake CDP has a total area of 0.83 square miles (2.15 km 2 ), of which 0.41 square miles (1.06 km 2 ) are land and 0.42 square miles (1.09 km 2 ), or 50.06%, are water.
