Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is a school district that runs the public school system of Hillsborough County in west central Florida and is headquartered in Tampa, Florida, United States. It is frequently referred to as the School District of Hillsborough County (SDHC). The district serves all of Hillsborough County. [4]
It was founded in 1921, as a committee within the Hillsborough County Education Foundation. In 1965, it broke away to become a separate entity. [1] In 1968, the union took part in the Florida Education Association's statewide strike of teachers for more education funding and collective bargaining rights. [1] [2] [3]
It currently enrolls about 550 students in grades sixth, seventh and eighth. North and West Hillsborough Schools were built in the early 1950s to accommodate the growth within the town. William H. Crocker Middle School opened in 1959. After the passage of the Measure B bond in 2002, each of the Hillsborough schools were renovated and modernized.
Bloomingdale Senior High School is a public high school located in Valrico, Florida. [4] Bloomingdale was established in 1987, three years after Gaither High School, and has its same architectural design.
