Air streams are mixed to save energy and improve energy efficiency by partially recirculating conditioned air.. The most common application for an air-mixing plenum is the mixing of return air (or extract air) with fresh air to provide a supply air mixture for onward distribution to the building or area which the ventilation system is serving. [1]
Displacement ventilation systems supply air directly to the occupied zone. The air is supplied at low velocities to cause minimal induction and mixing. This system is used for ventilation and cooling of large high spaces, such as auditorium and atria, where energy may be saved if only the occupied zone is treated rather than trying to control the conditions in the entire space.
An air handler, or air handling unit (often abbreviated to AHU), is a device used to regulate and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning system. [1] An air handler is usually a large metal box containing a blower , furnace or A/C elements, filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators , and dampers . [ 2 ]
Issues such as air leakage, control set points, minimum air volume settings, and short-circuiting (e.g. exhaust air mixing with intake fresh air) can all affect the amount of ventilation air that reaches a space. [5] [6] A DOAS system solves this problem by providing a dedicated supply of 100% outdoor air.
An example of a homemade unit. The Corsi–Rosenthal Box is a design for a do-it-yourself air purifier that can be built comparatively inexpensively. It consists of four [1] or five [2] [3] HVAC particulate air filters that form a cube and a box fan to draw air through the filters.

The fan maintains a constant static pressure in the discharge duct regardless of the position of the VAV box. Therefore, as the box closes, the fan slows down or restricts the amount of air going into the supply duct. As the box opens, the fan speeds up and allows more air flow into the duct, maintaining a constant static pressure. [11]
These green beans come with a treat: 8 cloves of creamy, buttery garlic that get air-fried alongside the green beans for bites of roasted garlic that don’t involve turning on your oven.
