The original company that made Johnson inboard motors and outboard motors was the Johnson Brothers Motor Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, United States. They started building inboard 2-cycle marine engines in 1903 in a barn behind the house, along with matching boats. By 1908, they were making V4, V6, V8, and V12 aircraft and marine engines.
These range from 2-, 3-, and 4-cylinder models generating 15 to 135 horsepower (11 to 101 kW) suitable for hulls up to 17 feet (5.2 m) in length to powerful V6 and V8 cylinder blocks rated up to 627 hp (468 kW)., [2] with sufficient power to be used on boats of 37 feet (11 m) or longer.
The D-400 series engine or the Iron Horse engine was a light-duty two-stroke engine used for powering lawnmowers produced from the 1950s to the late 1970s. D-400 engines were single-cylinder engines designed and manufactured by the Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC; Johnson and Evinrude) for Lawn-Boy [2] and Masport. The D-400 engines displaced ...
A return connecting rod, [1] [2] return piston rod [i] or (in marine parlance) double piston rod engine [2] or back-acting engine is a particular layout for a steam engine. The key attribute of this layout is that the piston rod emerges from the cylinder to the crosshead , but the connecting rod then reverses direction and goes backwards to the ...
As more classes were founded, Johnson moved on to B's, C's, D's, and E's. Johnson was commissioned to build the 16 ft X-Boat for youth in the 1930s. Johnson designed the J-Scow in the mid-1950s which was converted to the MC. [clarification needed] Through the years, the boat builder built Optis and 420s. In 1994, the builder brought out the ...
From 1939 all new-build steam locomotives had to be fitted with power reversers and from 1942 Johnson-bar–fitted engines undergoing heavy overhaul or rebuilding had to be retro-fitted with power reverse. Exceptions existed for light, low-powered locomotives and switchers (shunters). For switching, which required frequent changes of direction ...
The stinger's length and inside diameter are based on 0.59 to 0.63x the header pipe diameter and its length is equal to 12 times its diameter, depending on the results to be achieved. In a well designed tuned exhaust system, the total increase in pressure is in any case much less than the one produced by a muffler.
The current product line consists of eight models, ranging from the J/70 to the J/45, ranging in length from 22.75 to 45.6 ft (6.9 to 13.9 m). [4] A new 9 meter model has been announced for 2021. [5] Past models have ranged from 22.5 to 64.5 ft (6.9 to 19.7 m), from the J/22 to the J/65. [1]
