Zion is an unincorporated community in Central Township in southern Madison County, Missouri, United States. [1] It is located on U.S. Route 67, approximately ten miles south of Fredericktown. The community is situated on the banks of Twelve Mile Creek. [2] A post office called Zion was in operation from 1880 until 1964. [3]
The cornerstone of a new brick building was laid on June 23, 1912, with the church being dedicated on November 3, 1912. The church came at a cost of $8,000. The building was 42 feet by 70 feet, and included in the cost were the altar pulpit baptismal font, bell, pews and furnace.

Shortly after this Spencer W. Kimball, later president of the Church, served a mission in Missouri. The church began to expand in the 1920s with five new chapels dedicated in 1926 and 1927. The first Missouri stake was organized in Kansas City in 1956 with another organized in St. Louis in 1958.
