Emmerich Manual High School, often referred to as Manual High School, is a public high school in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It formerly was a traditional high school in the Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) district. It is now one of the schools operated by Christel House Academy and is named Christel House High School. Stark was supervisor of art instruction at Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis from 1899 to 1919, and worked part-time on the faculty of the John Herron Art Institute from 1905 to 1919. He retired from teaching in 1919 to work as a full-time painter.
After graduating from the Herron Institute of Art in 1924, Bernloehr took a job teaching art at Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis, but decided not to renew her teaching contract the following year. In order to maintain her contacts in the Indianapolis arts community, she assisted with the evening art classes at Herron.
