There has been a newspaper in Corpus Christi for almost as long as there has been a town. In 1883, the Caller was started in a frame building at 310 North Chaparral, now the site of Green's Jewelers. Roy Miller was editor of the Caller 1907–1911, when it was an enterprise of the King Ranch; he sold his interest in it in 1929.

The station was originally launched on June 20, 1954, as KVDO-TV, broadcasting on channel 22 as the Corpus Christi market's first television station. [2] Owned by Coastal Bend Television, KVDO was a primary affiliate of the DuMont network, [3] but carried secondary affiliations with NBC until KRIS-TV took the air in May 1956, CBS until KZTV signed on in September 1956, [4] and ABC.
