Mount Everest, known locally as Sagarmatha or Qomolangma, [note 4] is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas.
Sagarmāthā Zone took its name from "Sagarmāthā" which is the Nepalese name for Mount Everest (Sagarmāthā), which is located in the very north of the zone within the Sagarmatha National Park (1,148 km 2) in the Solu Khumbu district of Nepal.
Sagarmatha National Park contains the upper catchment areas of the Dudh Kosi and Bhotekoshi rivers and the Gokyo Lakes. It ranges in elevation from 2,845 m (9,334 ft) at Monjo to the top of Mount Everest at 8,848 m (29,029 ft). Other peaks above 6,000 m (20,000 ft) are Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Thamserku, Nuptse, Amadablam and Pumori.
Nepal’s eminent historian late Baburam Acharya is credited with the Nepali name Sagarmatha (सगरमाथा) [3] for Mount Everest that straddles Nepal-China border.
