Gramedia was first established on 2 February 1970, owned and managed by PT Gramedia Asri Media (GAM), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kompas Gramedia. GAM is the retail distribution channel for the group which also handles foreign publishers and partners. The first bookstore is in Jalan Gajah Mada, West Jakarta.
In 1987, Kompas Gramedia took over the ownership of Sriwijaya Post in Palembang. At the same time, the subsidiary Persda (short for Kelompok Pers Daerah , Regional Press Group) was established under the company name PT Indopersda Primamedia whose initial task was to assist local newspapers that needed assistance.

Toko Buku Gramedia (Gramedia Bookstore) is an Indonesian bookstore owned by Kompas Gramedia. Established in 1970, Gramedia Asri Media has contributed to give inspiration through knowledge, endeavor and direct participation to society for more than 50 years. Started in February 2, 1970 with the beginning of a small bookstore in West Jakarta.
Kompas TV was founded in 2008 and launched on 9 September 2011 with a concert titled Simfoni Semesta Raya. On 28 January 2016, Kompas TV was relaunched as a news-oriented network during the Suara Indonesia special event.
Trans Metro Pasundan consists of five corridors which serves the Bandung city area and its surroundings. There are two code formats on each corridors. The first format is K-(number)-BD, where K is an abbreviation of koridor (corridor, in Indonesian), while BD is an abbreviation of Bandung.
