Strauss in 1886. The Piano Quartet in C minor was written in the fall and winter of 1884–85, bearing an autograph date of 1 January 1885. This early chamber music work, written when Strauss was 20 years old, shows considerable influence from Johannes Brahms, especially his Piano Quartet in G minor (1856–1861) and Piano Quartet in C minor (1875).
