The 2019 science fiction novella Sisters of the Vast Black features a fictional group of nuns known as the Order of Saint Rita. St. Rita's Church is located in Nanthirickal, Kollam district, in the state of Kerala, India. It is the only church in Asia to have relics of Saint Rita. As per the belief Saint Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ came to Kerala in AD 52. Later he installed a church at Palayur, Chavakkad, presently in Thrissur District of Kerala. He baptised some Hindu families at St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Church, Palayur. The families include Kalli, Kalikavu, Pakalomattom and Sankarapuri.
