Mzuzu University is one of the principal universities of Malawi. The university is located in Luwinga, Mzuzu City, in the northern region of Malawi. It was founded in 1997 after being transformed from a teachers training college established in 1970s. It accepted its first students in 1999.
The club was founded in 1997 as Mzuzu University Football Club and was commonly known as Mzuni FC, nicknamed the green intellectuals or the students. [1]After several years of competing in the regional championship, Mzuni FC earned the first promotion to Super League of Malawi at the end of the 2000–01 season, winning Mzuzu and Districts Football League.
The city has 221,272 residents and 20,000 commuters (Mzuzu University students) with about 1.7 million people in its metropolitan area. [2] It is situated in the Mzimba District. Mzuzu lies in a gap in the Viphya Mountains, and the agricultural region surrounding the city specializes in tea, rubber and coffee cultivation. [3]

Mzuzu International Academy opened in September 2010 and currently, April 2017, has a school population of 200 students aged from 4–16; including 60 boarders. Approximately 25% of the Senior School population, Years 7–11, are scholarship students drawn from disadvantaged families in the local area.
