Some types of cyst are entirely normal: small cysts called follicular and luteal cysts develop during a normal menstrual cycle, and disappear by the time of the next cycle. Other types of ovarian cysts can develop and remain for longer, sometimes causing symptoms.

Hi Regina777 - I thought I would write to tell you of my experience with the whole procedure. I have just been through this scenario - you are right , it is very scary - I am 65 (just) and it is now appx 5 weeks after my surgery which was the 11th of November. My cyst was 25cm and weighed just under 4 kgs.
Posted 8 years ago. Yep it was big, about 30cm when removed. It was the same, nodules, septated etc. I think I had a smaller cyst as well but it was all removed along with the ovary. I had the ultrasound then a ct scan. Then my operation, was all very quick which makes it more terrifying.
Ovarian (bigger, functioning ovaries always have some cyst) cysts are luckily in 95% not cancerous, most are just liquid filled and if neoplasm, the neoplasms often benign. (Just to not panic poor 19 yr old denise completely, leave all possibilities open, but don't just look at the negative side before knowing.
