Admiral Charles William de la Poer Beresford, 1st Baron Beresford, GCB, GCVO, FRSGS (10 February 1846 – 6 September 1919), styled Lord Charles Beresford between 1859 and 1916, was a British admiral and Member of Parliament.
Beresford was the eldest son of Henry de la Poer Beresford, 6th Marquess of Waterford, and Lady Beatrix Frances Petty-Fitzmaurice, daughter of Henry Petty-FitzMaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne, Viceroy and Governor-General of Canada and India, respectively. [1] He was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]

Her third husband was Lord William de la Poer Beresford (1847–1900), son of John Beresford, 4th Marquess of Waterford (1814-1866) and Christiana Leslie. [ 1 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] [ 5 ] As a result of this marriage, which took place on April 30, 1895, [ citation needed ] she became known as Lady William Beresford. [ 2 ]

Arms of De La Poer Beresford, Baron Decies. Beresford was born on 20 January 1774. He was the second son of nine children born to William Beresford, 1st Baron Decies and Elizabeth FitzGibbon, niece of John FitzGibbon, 1st Earl of Clare. [1] His sister Louisa later married their first cousin, Marshal William Beresford, 1st Viscount Beresford. [1]
John Graham Hope Horsley de la Poer Beresford, 5th Baron Decies (1866–1944), [10] aide-de-camp to the Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught who married Helen Vivien Gould, a daughter of railroad executive George Jay Gould I, in 1911. After her death in 1931, [11] he married Elizabeth Wharton Drexel (widow of Harry Lehr) [12] in 1936. [13]
