Margaret de Audley, suo jure 2nd Baroness Audley and Countess of Stafford (c. 1318 [citation needed] – 7 September 1349 [1]) was an English noblewoman. She was the only daughter of Hugh de Audley, 1st Earl of Gloucester , by his wife Lady Margaret de Clare .

Margaret was a daughter of James Audley, 2nd Baron Audley (1312/13–1386), seated at the manor of Tawstock, feudal baron of Barnstaple, by his second wife Isabel LeStrange, daughter of Roger le Strange, 5th Baron Strange (c. 1327–1382) of Knokyn. [4]
She was the daughter of Roger le Rous and Alianore de Avenbury. [3] They had the following known issue: James de Audley (died 1334), with his partner Eve de Clavering, had two illegitimate children, Peter and James. Hugh de Audley, Earl of Gloucester (died 1347), married Margaret de Clare and had a daughter, Margaret de Audley, 2nd Baroness Audley.
Hugh married Margaret de Clare, [6] widow of Piers Gaveston, 1st Earl of Cornwall, who was the favourite (and possibly lover) of King Edward II of England. [2] [3] As Margaret was a sister of Gilbert de Clare, 8th Earl of Gloucester, who was killed at the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, she brought the Gloucester estates to her husband.
