Aveiro (pronounced ⓘ) is a city and a municipality in Portugal. In 2021, the population was 80,880, [1] in an area of 197.58 square kilometres (76.29 sq mi): [2] it is the second most populous city in the Centro Region of Portugal (after Coimbra).

The Central Region (Portuguese: Região do Centro, IPA: [ʁɨʒiˈɐ̃w du ˈsẽtɾu]) or Central Portugal is one of the statistical regions of Portugal. The cities with major administrative status inside this region are Coimbra, Aveiro, Viseu, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Guarda. It is one of the seven Regions of Portugal (NUTS II subdivisions).
It was created in October 2008, [1] replacing the previously existing Greater Metropolitan Area of Aveiro. Since January 2015, Região de Aveiro is also a NUTS3 subregion of Centro Region, that covers the same area as the intermunicipal community. [2] The main city and seat of the intermunicipal community is Aveiro.
Aveiro District is bordered by the Porto District to the north, the Viseu District to the east, the Coimbra District to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The 19 municipalities of Aveiro District are split between Norte Region (Metropolitan Area of Porto subregion) and Centro Region (Região de Aveiro subregion).
São Jacinto Airfield, officially designated Aveiro Municipal Aerodrome (Portuguese: Aeródromo Municipal de Aveiro), is an aerodrome near the city of Aveiro in Portugal.It is located on a peninsula, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Vouga River estuary, in the parish of São Jacinto, near to the harbour of Aveiro, as well as the Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) beaches.
