The Rose de Lima Campus is the oldest of the three St. Rose Dominican hospitals. It was founded in 1947 by the Adrian Dominican Sisters of Adrian, Michigan.Basic Magnesium Hospital purchased the hospital from the U.S. federal government for a nominal fee of one dollar a year for a period of 25 years. By the end of the 20th century, like many other religious communities, the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne were greatly reduced in numbers. In Fall 2002, the order closed the Rose Hawthorne Lathrop House in Fall River, Massachusetts. [9] St. Rose's Home in Manhattan closed March 31, 2009. As of 2013 the order numbered fifty-three sisters. [10]
