In the navy you apply directly to the postion you want, so if you want intel you apply to the intel board and if selected that will be your job if you graduate OCS. For me it took about 10 months from the time I contacted a recruiter to when I got my board results, and then my OCS start date is 6 months from that.
There will be fresh college grads and others who have worked a coupleof years before deciding to join the Navy. OCS classes can run anywhere from 45-60+officer candidates. ODS is officer development school. ODS trains those who are already commissioned officers, usually staff corps type: nurses, doctors, lawyers, chaplains, etc. It’s more of a customs, courtesies, and regulations curriculum. OCS is officer candidate school. You show up, as a candidate, and only commission if you pass.
