Debit cards often get a hold amount charged to them to ensure that you have the funds to pay. I don’t have a credit card for a long time and had issues when renting cars or at hotels. The fees were like $100-$500 and they would release the funds “within 3-5 business days”. Unless you have A LOT of extra in your budget, it can be difficult.
I have for most of the time enjoyed my meals by eating them alone. I have tried travelling with a group of friends and as the saying goes you will never really know your friends until you travel with them. I have come to a realization that travel makes you enjoy your destinations better. With no one judging you if you missed a train, lose a ticket.
Yes. I traveled as a 16 year old with friends to Greece and Czech Republic. Make sure you have your paperwork in order and that your accommodation is aware and ok with you staying alone; in Greece we booked a stay through a tourist agency (a beach apartment) and in Prague we stayed at a rather far away from the center but still decent hotel, also pre-booked.
I think I’m too young to travel alone anyway See above. Of course, the only right way to travel is the way you want to travel (as long as it doesn't negatively affect anyone else), but chances are you want to go to places where you can easily travel by yourself - few people start off wanting to go to Yemen.
Yeah, traveling with friends is fine. There is safety in numbers. Traveling alone is completely different. You have to be much more conservative with the risks you take, as it is easier to end up in a bad situation than if you have a couple people with you. This is common sense and should be followed everywhere.
You are absolutely old enough to travel alone and the fact that you are asking tells me that you’re mature enough to be aware of the risks that it involves. I started traveling around Europe during my university breaks when I was 19 and probably took a couple risks that I shouldn’t have (but really wasn’t aware I was taking them at the time.)
Yes go for it - occasionally travelling alone gives you opportunity to be more adventurous and most importantly, you do not have to think what anyone wants and prioritise what you want to do. Depends on the location as well though, if it is a big city with a lot of things to do, travelling alone is great but if it is quiet and there is not much ...
I’d say a good age nowadays to travel alone is around preferably 18. When I was 17 I traveled to Japan alone and it was great, but I don’t trust the judgement of today’s 17 year olds. Around 4 years ago I might’ve said 14, but nowadays I’d have to say 18 is an ideal age to travel alone.
I barely speak with my parents today because of that. And they apparently didn't really understand what happened and why things have changed so much. The best thing you can do is to give support to your daughter and her decisions. Try to control here and she either runs away at some point (best case) either ends up with a trauma (worst one).
Note in particular that you, in the 15-17 category, may be required to pay their “Unaccompanied minor service” fee even if you don’t use the services and are required to have a person from the airport/airline escort you to the gate. You also need to meet the requirements of entering Spain as an unaccompanied minor.
