Golf Mill Shopping Center, or simply Golf Mill, is a shopping center located at 239 Golf Mill Center in Niles, Illinois. The shopping mall has a gross leasable area of 1.1 million square feet (100,000 m 2 ).
The mall features JCPenney and Von Maur anchors, as well as an 18-screen dine-in AMC Theatres on an outparcel. At the time of its 1968 opening, the 1,300,000-square-foot (120,000 m 2 ) Yorktown Center ranked as the largest shopping center in America. [ 1 ]
The mall also had a pair of free-standing twin cinemas, Woodfield Theatres 1 & 2 and Woodfield Theatres 3 & 4, at the perimeter of the mall near Golf Road. The 1 & 2 was opened with two G-rated films, including a Disney movie, and the 3 & 4 later opened; both were closed and demolished in the 1990s, replaced by additional retail.
The new 1.1 million square feet (102,000 m²) mall officially opened on August 19, 1971. Over 5,000 people attended the opening day ceremonies, including the mayor of Waukegan. Original anchor stores of the mall were JCPenney, Carson Pirie Scott, and Wieboldt's. [3] 85 percent of the center had been leased by 1970.

Madigan's operated as a junior anchor in the mall until the early 1990s, when its space was divided between Foot Locker and TJ Maxx, both of which opened in 1994.
